My assessment plan was created around the continuous learning that is occurring amongst my students. The students will be pre-assessed on the first day of the unit, assessing their current level of understanding by indicating whether their answers don't meet, partially meet or meet. This will be assessed off accuracy of their answers, though it's expected that most, if not all, won't fully meet since it's new information. Formativelly, students will be assessed through their exit tickets, activity pages and possible extensions that are provided. Each of these assignments will be turned in when completed and reviewed for both completion and accuracy. The daily activity work will be returned the following day with feedback, while the other pages will receive feedback on an individual basis. Students will self-assess each day following the mini-lesson, giving themselves a thumbs up, down or to the side for understanding and then receiving additional support if needed. Finally, students will receive a summative assessment following the same format as the pre-assessment to monitor their progress and growth.
This assessment plan aligns to the Learning goals for the Teacher Work Sample through the variety in strategies being used to assess my students. While the same tools are used for each goal, the variety in assessment and feedback allows each goal to be met at different points throughout the week. By returning student work and scoring their answers in different ways, my students are able to understand their progress and the material in multiple ways.
The objectives in the unit are met through the assessments I perform on each piece of work my students do. Within my daily activity sheets I am mainly ensuring my students meet the objectives through checking their responses. If students have answered all the questions and answered them correctly, they are meeting the objectives highlighted for that lesson (adding fractions for lessons 1-3 and subtracting fractions for lessons 3-5). Incorrect responses or incomplete work signifies partially meeting or not meeting the objectives.
