My teacher work sample took place over the course of five days, Monday through Friday, in which students learned how to add and subtract fractions. The lesson was created and designed to be implemented within a fourth grade classroom with a wide range of skill levels and abilities. The students learned the information in a scaffolded learning process, decomposing fractions on day one and working up to adding and subtracting mixed number fractions by day 5. There were multiple formative assessments used each day to monitor progress along with a pre-assessment and a summative assessment to monitor their progress from the beginning to the end of the unit.
